Oh, MySpace...

Posted by GoryBlizzard - January 9th, 2010

I have no idea what I'm doing up at this hour, but that's not really the point of this news post.

I just started to think about MySpace not too long ago, and to be honest, I haven't got a god damn clue why.

It seems just like yesterday when MySpace whores were rampant all over the Internet, but these days, most have moved on to Facebook and Twitter. I still go to the site every now and then to stream music from bands I like or bands I'm interested in, but MySpace's usefulness ends there for me.

When I was in high school, particularly during my first 3 years, everyone had to have a MySpace account. I kept telling myself when I was a freshman that I would never sign up, but I finally gave in on July 15, 2005 and remained active for 2 years. I added a shitload of NGers and metal bands, and I subsequently started to get adds from all of these amateur metal bands I've never heard of before. Anyway, after late 2007, I pretty much got tired of MySpace, and so I deleted most (but not all) of my friends. Well, they weren't really friends, just random people who added me. No loss, really.

Oh yeah, here's my MySpace page. As you can see, it looks like a graveyard now. Don't bother adding me...I mean, you can if you want, but there really isn't any point anymore. It's 2010 now. Besides, I already have a bunch of older NGers back from when MySpace was considered cool. Just about all of them have left the site as well, most notably including Wade and FUNK, who remain on my Top Friends to this day. My last "real" comment was on December 22, 2007 left by a friend of mine from high school, who now goes to Beloit College in Wisconsin.

My all-time favorite comment, though, was left on February 22, 2006 by "koreaman." It's not the real Koreaman, who was a well-known alt on the BBS from 2004-2005. This comment was really left by Bahamut, who posed as Koreaman on MySpace, although he didn't admit that to me until 2009, more than 3 years after he left this lulzy comment on my profile (sorry for the small text--I tried to paste the comment in its entirety but it ended up looking all screwy and shit):

I will never have a MySpace. My friends keep telling me to make one but I don't see the point of me having one. I'm the only person with an NG account out of all of them and they ask what is NG and why I come here. I tell them because of the funny animations and forums (even though I rarely post I still lurk cuz of the funny shit people say lol). So yeah, I'll never make a MySpace and if I do then too bad...

I hate Myspace. I never saw what was so great about it. I'm glad I never made one.
